This VR experience was developed to promote the Leidos Software Factory featuring their newly designed Morgantown, West Virginia campus. This Meta Quest experience walks users through an interactive 360 VR tour into the state-of-the-art work environment at their Software Factory. This experience was developed in collaboration with Leidos & Pixeldust Studios who provided the core 3d model assets.
Responsibilities:
Worked as Head of VR + Unity Development using Meta Quest 3, Pro.
Lighting, shading, texturing and look development using Unity Universal Rendering Pipeline.
Used Meta sdk integration and C# programming language.
This experience was also ported to browser based Unity web gl experience that works on any platform with internet.
The technology used to create this experience was Unity's Universal Rendering Pipeline, complimented with the Oculus SDK for Unity and C# programing language. Unity's Lightweight Universal pipeline was monumental in achieving high-quality architectural interior lighting with PBR real-world shaders and materials at a low rendering cost for everything to run smoothly on the mobile Meta VR headset. Unity's profiling and optimization tools proved worthy of continuously tweaking and maintaining a higher FPS when traversing the virtual space.
This experience familiarizes users with the organization's mission, culture, and core values, aided by guided narration and animated video screens that populate the virtual space. Additional 3D projections of the site map are anchored within the space to show users various development areas and amenities within the facility. Users can virtually walk around the interactive 3D maps and interact with hotspots for navigation purposes. Videos and screens of various sizes throughout the experience showcase other company media and information.
Users can advance, enter and exit spaces by pointing the controller at doors and then pulling the trigger. Overlaid guidance animations and assistive audio instructions lead users further in their VR navigation. Interactive marquee 3D maps break down the site plan and high areas of interest.
The Leidos Software Factory facility contains different workspaces. The experience mainly focuses on the most essential: dual conference rooms, software development pods, break room, and the outside recreation facility. An interactive lobby serves as the central point between these various spaces. We also deployed static, natural-looking 3D young professional developers inside the experience to make it feel populated and alive, while not overwhelming the senses.
